A Fresh Mind

Every day is rich with possibility and choice, provided we have created a mind fresh enough to see opportunity.

You can change strategy, personnel, even come up with a new corporate identity and supposedly new values however if the behaviours behind these new plans remains the same, then you’ll keep re-creating the same old problems.

Problems do not exist outside of the mind – it is our mental attitude that transforms a situation into either a problem or an opportunity. There are layers upon layers of consciousness outwith our awareness. And we are wise to recognise this fact. Discernment is vital if we are to make choices that enrich and bring life to organisations, ourselves and others. We must therefore create space to reflect in order to increase awareness of the deeper thinking patterns behind our choices.

You need a daily reflective practice in order to maintain energy, effectiveness and clarity of thinking in our modern world of business. An agitated state of mind is not effective.

I practice Vipassana meditation. Vipassana, which means to see things as they really are, is one of India’s most ancient techniques of meditation. It is the most profound tool for developing awareness that I have come across in my 10 years as a coach.

Like any tool, benefits are only realised through regular practice. It’s not the kind of message instant result executives want to hear. Nevertheless, patience and persistence is the key to anything that endures. I could write reams about the benefits of this technique however your own experience will be the best teacher of all. Please do get in touch if you want to know more.

Create a fresh, incisive mind. Pay more attention to your inner life by adopting a daily reflective practice. It is the key to success on every level.
